Ultrasound-Guided Injection Therapies

All injections in clinic are performed under real-time ultrasound guidance. This ensures the treatment is delivered precisely to the target structure - whether that is a tendon, joint, bursa, or other tissue.

Injection therapies are never a standalone treatment. They are one component of a comprehensive management plan that includes diagnosis, exercise rehabilitation, and addressing contributing factors.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)

PRP therapy uses a concentrated preparation of platelets from your own blood, delivered directly to the injured tissue under ultrasound guidance.

  • How it works: A small blood sample is taken, centrifuged to concentrate the platelets, and injected precisely into the target area.
  • Common indications: Tendinopathy (Achilles, patellar, gluteal, rotator cuff), osteoarthritis, plantar fasciitis, muscle and ligament injuries.
  • What to expect: The procedure takes approximately 30-45 minutes. You may experience increased discomfort for several days before improvement begins.

Corticosteroid Injections

Corticosteroid (cortisone) injections are well-established for reducing inflammation and pain in joints, bursae, and around tendons. I use corticosteroid injections judiciously and always as part of a broader treatment plan.

Viscosupplementation (Hyaluronic Acid)

Viscosupplementation involves injecting hyaluronic acid into a joint - most commonly the knee - for osteoarthritis management. Visit the Osteoarthritis Clinic page for more information.

Joint Aspiration & Synovial Fluid Analysis

Joint aspiration can be both diagnostic and therapeutic. Fluid can be sent for laboratory analysis to identify infection, crystal disease (gout, pseudogout), or inflammatory conditions.
